Things are looking up

So we finally got jobs! It seems like it took forever, but really we were job searching for just under 3 weeks. I am working for this company called Mika Rose, its a modest clothing company that is based out of Provo and is just starting to sell in Seattle. I will be a sales rep for the road shows they will be doing to promote the clothing. I am so excited, it works out perfect because its only for the summer, it doesn't require a lot of training since I have already done so much retail and I get free clothes to wear to work. I was starting to get a little worried but its all coming together now. Chelsea also got a job working for a nice restaurant as a hostess. We both got full schedules right away and so we had to have some fun today since it was our last free day together, at least for a while. We went to Alki beach, just outside of downtown Seattle. There is a long board walk where everyone rides their bikes, a beach and a really cute strip with little shops. It was really cold but people were acting like it was a nice sunny day, playing volleyball, paddle boarding and playing in the sand. Me and Chels were freezing just walking in and out of stores. It was cool to experience a totally different kind of beach and see such a cool view of the city. I love it here more and more everyday and now I love it even more that I have a job!

Cupcakes and canoeing....what could be better?

Today we found a gluten-free bakery just a short distance from our house. I was so excited. It was run by a few ladies who homemade everything from bread to pizza, cookies, cupcakes, cheesecake, sandwiches....basically everything you would ever want. It was a cute little shop with a bookshelf full of gluten-free cooking books and the woman behind the counter completely understood my excitment over all the goodies to choose from. After our stop to get me a treat, we went to Greenlake and rented a canoe. We were a little nervous at first, the three of us tend of get a little crazy when we are together...fighting, hitting each other...that sort of thing. Basically we act like we are 10 years old. Not a super good combination for a skinny canoe on a lake. There were a few close calls when we almost tipped the boat trying to move around but we made it back safe. It was so fun, the lake is so pretty and we really enjoyed it. It was something we have wanted to do since we first got here and something we will for sure be doing again. We have some interviews lined up for this week, everyone cross your fingers! Im sure we will be missing days like this once we get a full schedule.

Pretty Parks

Bubble drinks are really popular here and they are our new obsession. We treat ourselves when we can convince each other that we have enough money to live haha.

One thing I love about Seattle is the outdoor activity. People are always outside, running, biking, doing everything. There are beautiful parks everywhere too. Yesterday we took a walk around Green Lake. This huge lake with a trail around it that is about 2 miles round trip. There were massive lily pads floating in the lake with turtles just hanging out on top of them. The three of us were pretty excited about this since the turtles we are used to are much larger and swim in the ocean. Although its been a little chilly lately, the sun was out yesterday and if you in the sun, it felt pretty good. Everyone keeps telling us that we must have brought the good weather with us from Hawaii. Even though there have still been some typical Seattle days with rain and clouds. Although we still have not found jobs, and its starting to get a little stressful thinking about how we are going to survive the summer if we don't get a paycheck soon, we are trying to enjoy what we can. Well, enjoy all the free things that we can. Jordan's dad does come up every once in a while to work on the house and he spoils us with things like full meals and Mariners games. But when he goes home, its back to parks, job searching, and apples for dinner. I still love it here, my dad told me if I really need to come home, he will help me get there. I never ever considered that! I am determined to find some way of supporting myself here and enjoying the rest of my summer in Seattle.

Mariners game

Mariners game! After being down 3-0 the entire game, Ken Griffy Jr. got up in the 8th inning, hit a home run and every hit after that made it home. Mariners won 4-3, the crowd was going insane. It was so fun to be there.

The garlic fries, the most amazing thing ever, and the worst thing ever. You immediately regret the decision to eat them when you taste nothing but garlic for two days after.

Rose Gardens and Matthew's Beach

This past weekend we visited the rose gardens at the Seattle zoo. It was a little chilly and not as sunny as it has been lately but there were so many flowers. They were so pretty and smelled really really good. We took lots of pictures and enjoyed just walking around before we headed to church.

One of our new favorite spots to go to is Matthew's beach, just down the street from our house is this little park right by the water. There are bike paths and big fields that everyone lays out in on blankets. This past week we took a walk down to the park and just walked a long the bike path and enjoyed being outside. I love how active people are here. It makes you want to be outside and walk instead of drive, you want to ride a bike and be healthy because everyone around you is. We are loving the city more and more, there is still a lot we are trying to figure out, like how different the driving is and having to look at a map every time we get in the car but its good for us to learn these things and not live such a sheltered like in our little Laie.

New love

I am quickly falling in love with Seattle. Everything is so green and there are huge pine trees everywhere. The weather has been perfect and watching the sunset from Gasworks park at like 9:45 is amazing. I am still struggling to get used to the sun setting sooo late. I think its like 6 o'clock and realize its 9. The city is so cool because it doesn't ever feel too city-like, there are still trees everywhere and big gorgeous lakes. There are such cute little towns with tons of cafes and boutiques, and you always see someone riding a bike. Today we went to the beach, it was of course very different from the beaches Im used to, big rocks instead of sand lined the water and the water was not very blue, but it was still so beautiful. We are still trying to explore the area and get to know where we are. Its been an adventure so far and Im looking forward to getting more settled and enjoying every minute of this crazy city.

I promise I will put pictures up asap!

On my way again...

I am ready to go on my next adventure to a new city with new experiences. I am moving to Seattle with my two best friends to work and play in a place I have never been before. As I get older I realize I won't be able to do things like live in Spain for 3 months or just up and move to a new city for very much longer. I want to take advantage of every opportunity I have to explore the world and discover what I want for myself. The two girls I am moving there with are my closest friends, I do not go a day without talking to either of them. Our decision to go to Seattle was based a lot on the fact that one of my friends will be getting married within the next year, and our lives are getting more complex, with school, work and goals that will take us all in different directions. We are viewing this as our last "carefree" (not completely carefree, we will be working a lot!) summer just us girls. I am excited to see what the summer brings and can't wait to get there.
Wish me luck!
